XPG's RULES
Character Creation • Character Combat • Player Conduct • Character Posting
- PLAYER BEHAVIOR Play nice. Treat the other Players with respect, don't flame, or otherwise engage in un-requested criticism, don't (intentionally) ignore Tags and, above all, keep it positive. We also ask that you respect the Staff members, who all work for the benefit of XPG and its playership. Please, don’t argue with the Staff – we are here to help you.
- PLAYER CONFLICT If you have problems with another player KEEP IT OFF THE STIE! Try dealing directly with the other Player to come to a mutually satisfactory resolution. If you try and fail, THEN contact a Moderator.
Sometimes a Player will slip up, but try to apologize if you do. The Moderators will tolerate almost anything except overt rudeness to another player or writing for another Player's Character. Players violating this rule will receive ONE WARNING and then be unceremoniously booted.
Strong personalities sometimes call for strong measures. The Staff will take whatever measures we deem fit to keep the game rolling smoothly for the maximum number of Players.
- STORYLINES (Approvals) All PCs and all Major Plots MUST be approved by XPG's Moderators. (A Major Plot is defined as involving three or more Characters.) If you have any ideas on how you would like to evolve, grow or change your character within the context of XPG (i.e., plot wise), please address these ideas, requests and/or possible questions to one of XPGs Moderators. If your idea is not cleared, but you go ahead and try to implement it anyway, your post will be removed from the Site.
- POSTING (Character Actions & Dialog) Do not write dialog for or move another Player's Character without that Player's express written permission. This includes (but is not limited to) powers such as Mind Control, Telekinesis and Teleportation. In a fight between two characters, do not write damage for another Player's Character.
Note: It is assumed that the players are competent enough to be able to accurately write a result of their character being possessed, teleported, etc, based on their ability to resist and the power/skill level of the attacker.
- POSTING (Consistency) Please keep your character consistent. If they are extremely afraid of something, make them come off as extremely afraid. Play within the confines of your character. Do not use knowledge your Character lacks, and don't use abilities your Character does not possess (unless you are an extremely gifted writer and can come up with a convincing - or at least entertaining - explanation!
- POSTING (Results) Generally, Players will be allowed to write their own character’s damage, and they should do so in accordance with the situation. The Moderator may hurt or even kill a PC if the Player fails to account for damage taken during a fight (so try to avoid writing such a scene!)
- POSTING (Proofing) Clean up your posts. Remember that God (well Apple and IBM anyway) gave us Spell Check for a reason. Remember to type up a detailed summary to your posts to make it easier for other Players to keep track of what is going on.
When posting and indicating a character’s spoken words, "Your character's dialogue belongs between quotation marks." When writing a character's personal thoughts, ::Your character's thoughts belong between double colons.::
- POSTING (Minimum Post Length) No one-line posts. Period. One-Liners will result in an automatic warning. One-Word posts will automatically result in your being banned from this site. The reasoning behind this is that these posts are boring and often frustrate the hell out of other people. When writing, please think about how your character would react to the given situation, and write about it. All posts need to be at least 200 words, although more is preferable. To help keep track of how long your post is, we have a handy word counter embedded within our posting tool. The exception to this rule is OOC posts, which should be brief and to the point.
Please do not quote large chunks of a previous post – only quote what is necessary, and bear in mind that you should not be using large chunks of a previous post to beef up your word count. We will notice, and we will take action.
NOTE: if you wait more then 24 hours for something to reply to, you can post an OOC notice of 'waiting' directly to the thread. This OOC does not count as a post, but it will be considered as an exception on a case by case basis, should you miss your posting count in a given week. If you wait more than 48 hours, you may gently AUTO another’s Character (keeping in line with their Character Waiver) in order to untangle your Character from the thread, so that you may post your Character somewhere else. Please, be sure to indicate in the OOC area of your post that you are exercising the "48 hour rule".
- POSTING (Quotas) XPG requires all players to post a minimum of three (3) times within a period of the last seven (7) days. This is sometimes referred to as a “rolling seven days”. If you can not post, or you expect to miss these minimum posting requirements, you must notify (by email only) the Moderators with a request of leave (or request to be temporarily excused from posting requirements), as prolonged unexcused absences may result in a Character or Player being dropped from XPG. This is very important, especially if it is known that you are around and posting in other games!
You will be able to track your post count from your XPG Home Page.
A player is responsible for a minimum of 2 posts per week, per character that they play.
- CHARACTER DEATH Dead is Dead. Jean Grey is real dead. The Moderators may kill a PC (if that character was written into a place that they can't escape, for example), or a Player may kill their own Character with Moderator approval – but, remember that death is final. Any resurrections must be cleared through the Moderators, and don't expect it to happen unless you have it pre-approved by way of a special storyline, or the like. Unlike Marvel, we’re not very likely to bring characters back from the Great Beyond. This will rarely, if ever, happen on XPG.
- REMEMBER THE CAVEAT to whom much is given, much is required.
Players who give their characters every possible advantage/skill should not complain if they get crapped on. Since we're not using a point system, it's the only way to keep the game fair.
- CHARACTERS (Fives the Limit) Members are allowed a total of five (5) active characters at any time on XPG, but your first character is required to be a canon character (also known as an FC). Our Cerebra tool allows you to search our database for all characters we have on file, and you can see if they are being played, or if they are available for adoption. If a character you wish to play does not yet exist within Cerebra, contact a Staff member to see if that particular character will fit within our RPG’s reality.
We strive to keep a balance between the amount of Original Characters (OCs) and Featured Characters (FCs)/Canons. Since you may play up to 5 characters on XPG, this means that you may play any even combination of FCs & OCs so long as your OC count doesn’t go higher than your FC count. On the other hand, there is no restriction on the number of FCs you may play.
- POSTING (Ratings)It's called Sex and Violence for a reason, not Sax and Violins, folks. We allow graphic displays of love, sex and affection - and yes, sometimes its liberally sprinkled with huge amounts of mayhem and violence. XPG is an NC-17 rated site. That being said, we are not looking for posts which are simply pornographic. You may imply that your character had sex with another character, or themselves, or even a small farm animal if it serves a purpose. You may denote these events in extremely graphic detail. You can go as far as Quentin Tarintino might if he didn't have to worry about studio profits. But, if a post contains gratuitous sex or violence, it must be labeled with a RATING, much like movies do. This RPG is meant for people over the age of 18 that are interested in Roleplaying, not erotica/pornography. Sex, violence and cursing are all allowed, so long as they are handled tastefully, as opposed to exploitively. Players should label posts with extreme violence or language so that those easily offended by such can avoid them.
Those that are easily offended should ask themselves why they're here, because if posts are labeled and rated, and people complain, our first question will be 'Why did you read it?' and the second will be 'Why are you here?'.
- BECAUSE IT's LAME While we want you to have fun, were not going to post some sort of LAME statement about the fact that we want you to enjoy yourselves. We've built a very comprehensive site, our intent should be obvious. Please respect it and the wishes of the site's creators.
