APPEARANCE: |
| Gabriel is the quintessential boy next door, if the boy next door is a very handsome dirty-blond haired, green-eyed young man with a tall superhero-esque build. Although he is tall, Gabriel is perfectly proportionate for his height, so much so that when seen by himself it is is not immediately apparent that he is as tall as he actually is. The eye is drawn to his face that engenders immediate trust and comfort. His green eyes almost appear to be luminescent. While Gabriel has the look of a runway model, he is very down to earth, and favors jeans and button-down casual shirts or sports attire over anything too terribly fancy. |

PERSONALITY: |
| Gabriel appears to be the boy next door: simple, uncomplicated, possibly a tad goofy, and extremely helpful to others. He is also a jock, so he defines the world through performance and ability. With his jock buddies he can be loud and crude and sometimes insensitive, and he will go along with most of their antics, but he stops short of criminal mischief and abhors picking on people that are physically less capable than himself. So when he sees others being bullied, he will take immediate steps to defend them, showing off something of a hero mentality. Gabriel is slow to anger, but is most likely in defense of others, as he feels it is wrong to harm others physically or though emotional cruelty. |
GOALS: |
| Gabriel is not entirely sure what he wants to do with his life. With the emergence of his mutant powers, he knows his dreams of playing professional sports is now dead. He hopes that he can find a place for himself in the world before someone else finds one for him. |

SPECIAL ABILITIES
ADVANTAGES: |
| APPROACHABLE - Assuming he has had his caffeine, Vulcan is a center of calm, someone that people feel comfortable being around.
ATHLETE - Vulcan is an athlete to the core. He demonstrated a marked talent for Soccer and Football, and was being scouted by several major colleges for his skills. He has a natural gamesmanship and strong team spirit.
BOY NEXT DOOR - Vulcan possesses that special combination of looks and charisma that has been the embodiment of the next door neighbor's kid for centuries. It is not just that he is beautiful or charming, more that he doesn't pay attention to either factor and has a genuine appeal that is a reflection of his inner character. The advantage of being the Boy Next Door is a distinct lack of awareness or concern that he actually IS the boy next door.
DAMN HEALTHY! - Vulcan maintains perfect health, more as a factor of his ultra active life style, rather than his diet. He eats just enough of the right foods to make his exercise pay off. The rest comes from a hearty constitution. |
POWERS: |
| ENERGY ABSORPTION - Vulcan subconsciously absorbs electromagnetic and psionic energy and stores it within his body. In order to absorb an attack he must be actively attempting to control and negate that attack at him. Otherwise, the subconscious absorption will not help enough. This means he can not absorb a psionic attack against himself, although he is resistant to such an attack.
ENERGY CONTROL - Vulcan can amplify or negate electromagnetic energy in a thirty foot radius around him, as long as he is consciously aware of it (i.e. he must see it in use). Thus he could stop the magnetic influence of a door near him, or cause an electrical/lightning bolt to grow to one and a half times its power.
ENERGY EMISSION - Vulcan can fire blasts of electromagnetic energy out to a few hundred feet, which causes severe damage to electronics. It can render a person stunned, drive them to the ground or knock them through the air. Magnetic abilities are disrupted by this blast.
FLIGHT - By absorbing electromagnetic energy and redirecting it, Vulcan can fly at speeds of up to 100 mph. Due to the pervading electromagnetic energy of the Earth, Vulcan is rarely unable to fly.
MENTAL RESISTANCE - When Vulcan is exposed to a telepathic attack, his body involuntarily burns stored psionic energy to help him resist it. Thus a telepathic conversation would not be hindered, but a mental blast would. If he does not have any psionic energy stored, Vulcan's resistance is left at its normal level. |
FIGHTING SKILLS: |
| ACROBATICS - Gymnastic movement. Vulcan can tumble, swing from ropes, walk across thin beams, and leap through windows. He can reduce the difficulty when trying to lessen damage from falls and dodging attacks, if he has sufficient room to move acrobatically.
ATHLETICS - An All-Seasons Athlete, Vulcan lives for sports, especially Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball and Gymnastics.
SURFING - Like any true Hawaiian, Vulcan spent what all the free time he had between sports, surfing.
TACTICS - Vulcan has a keen mind, and is able to assess a situation and determine the best course of action. This talent served him well on the gridiron, but it can be used anywhere. |
DISADVANTAGES: |
| ACADEMIC DEADBEAT - Vulcan puts no effort into his school work, whatsoever. He figures if he can get C+s and B-s with minimal to no effort, why push for more? This is a lingering carryover from when he thought he might have a sports career. He knows he should shake this off to build a good career, but he just is not a studious person.
CAFFEINE ADDICTION - Vulcan is a caffeine addict. He would step over his own mother to get a cup of coffee. His favorite method of consumption is Jolt Cola, which he drinks often. When he is denied caffeine, he becomes surly and agitated. Attempts to quit have lead to severe headaches.
CRACKPOT MAGNET - For some reason, crazy people love Vulcan, and he seems to attract them where ever he goes, be it the drunkard at the train station who wants to spill his life story, or the Moonies at the air port.
SENSITIVE JOCK - Most would think that Jock is automatically synonymous with Jerk, but there is a more insidious form. Though well intentioned, Vulcan can be quite patronizing to non-sports or non-physically motivated individuals. While it might seem that he is being helpful, it will become clear that he actually thinks they are helpless. It also means that he will always confront a bully. |

HISTORY
Gabriel Summers is the youngest of three boys born to Christopher and Katherine Summers. When the plane carrying the Summers family crashed after an attack by unknown parties. Gabriel had not yet been born his mother was only seven months pregnant. Initially both parents were thought dead, but the coroner was able to determine that while at death's door, Katherine was still alive. Katherine did regain consciousness briefly; she pleaded with the coroner to save her baby, whom she stressed should be named Gabriel Summers. As these were literally her dying words, the coroner, a Dr. Sharon Warren, was moved by the request. A medical doctor by profession, Warren performed and emergency caesarian. The child was brought into the world moments after his mother’s death.
Warren felt responsible for the newborn infant. When it became known that Gabriel's elderly grandfather would not be able to care for an infant; she petitioned to adopt the child. As it was a dying declaration witnessed by the rescue workers that Gabriel’s mother had begged Dr. Warren to take care of her child, the adoption met with little opposition; it was further sanctioned by his grandfather. The Warrens were never able to conceive any children of their own thus Gabriel remained an only child. To honor his parents, Sharon and her husband Leo gave him his birth parents' last name as his middle. Gabriel's early childhood was spent playing pirates and space adventures, but he easily turned his attentions to sports when he was old enough to play on teams. A natural athlete, Gabriel played sports all year long, sometimes overlapping sports like Football and Soccer.
While curious about his parents, Gabriel was too young to be able to make inquiries about them. Because of the death of his grandfather while he was an infant, Gabriel never met his brothers. Friends became important to Gabriel possibly an unconscious substitution for his brothers. The Warrens encourage their son's outgoing and friendly nature, encouraging him to become involved in anything that interested him. He grew used to being popular and cultivated friendships with people who shared his adventurous spirit. They played superheroes and super spies, as Gabriel like games that kept them active; the Hawaiian weather seemed to accommodate his outdoor life style.
Early in his Sophomore year, Gabriel's mutant powers dramatically manifested. Five of Gabriel's friends, along with his best friend Robert's father had gone fishing well off the coast of Oahu when the boat's engine exploded, setting the ship on fire. The closest ship to them was an Aegis class on its way back to Pearl Harbor. While on board Gabriel's power interfered with the missile launching system, and two missiles were launched. One missile slammed into a buoy, and attempts to gain control of the second missile resulted in the missile turning back on the ship. Given the nature of the event, the Captain radioed that the ship was under attack. While everyone else assumed it was some sort of terrorist, Gabriel knew somehow he was responsible, and he was unable to control what was happening. Fortunately no one was ever able to identify who or what was responsible for the missiles firing, and the incident was chalked up to catastrophic systems failure.
Gabriel's parents while alarmed at what they had been told by him were nevertheless supportive and promised to get him help controlling his abilities. That help came quickly in the form of an invitation to attend the Xavier Institute.
