SPECIAL ABILITIES
ADVANTAGES: |
| AMBIDEXTROUS - Remy is equally capable of performing any task with either hand from writing to rolling dice and acts of slight of hand. This means that Remy will be able to perform tasks just as well with one hand injured.
ATTRACTIVE - Remy has a habit of turning heads where ever he goes, regardless of how he may appear, he's just damn attractive. As someone once said, "as infuriating and arrogant as Gambit can be, those eyes, that grin, the body, it takes a girl's breath away."
CHARISMATIC - Remy just seems to have that special magnetic charm or appeal about him. There is something about Remy that people just can't seem to resist, allowing him to influence others in a positive manner. Positive in his eyes, at least. It can be difficult to not be swept up by Gambit's relaxed charm.
BALANCE - Remy can run across ropes or rails, stand on top of posts, effortlessly climb ropes and can easily recover from being thrown. As a generator of bio-kinetic energy, Remy has physiological attributes adapted to constant movement.
CONFIDENT - Remy possesses an untouchable air of superiority that makes others instinctively realize he's in control. He sometimes comes off as cocky, but his confidence can otherwise be a comforting presence in stressful situations. |
POWERS: |
| BIO-KINETIC ENERGY CHARGE - Remy has the ability to charge objects with a volatile kinetic energy. The object then explosively releases its charge on impact or after a controlled amount of time. The larger the object is, the more time it takes to charge. The charge must be imparted through contact and only non-organic matter is affected.
ADAPTED PHYSIOLOGY – As a generator of bio-kinetic energy, Remy developed enhanced physical qualities as he matured, adapted specifically for movement. This has resulted in his speed, agility, reflexes, endurance, flexibility, and balance being pushed to the limit of natural human capacity. As Remy is still developing his skills, he isn't quite up to his capabilities.
STATIC INTERFERENCE – Remy’s charge emits a static interference that protects him from telepathic probes. However, the protection is only be in effect while the charge is held close to himself (e.g. holding a charged card). |
FIGHTING SKILLS: |
| FAST EXIT - Remy can attack physically and move to firing distance before any foe can complete an action that affects him. His enhanced speed and reflexes, in combination with the reach of his staff allow him to fend off close ranged foes long enough to retreat to cover. Remy's enhanced physical attributes also allow him to perform acrobatic moves with relative ease.
GAMBLING - Playing games, including, but not limited to: board, card, computer, dice, strategy, and tabletop games. This skill also covers gambling. Perhaps not surprisingly, Gambit prefers card games.
OBSERVATION - The use of all sensory powers with Willpower trump suits, plus a general ability to tell when something is interesting or out of place. Observation skills also help when surveying a location for entrance or escape routes.
SLEIGHT OF HAND - Stage magic. Remy can make small items appear and disappear by a combination of misdirection and swift, fluid gestures. He can also use this skill to pick someone's pocket, another basic skill for a professional thief. Remy is also able to open locks of all sorts, as it is a staple skill of any professional thief.
WEAPON STYLE - (Edged & bo-staff) - Anything from a Sword to the sharp edge of a playing card, assuming Remy can lift it. He can reduce the difficulty when throwing any edged object. His preferred tools are his playing cards and his telescopic staff. Remy can also throw small objects with extraordinary speed and accuracy. |
DISADVANTAGES: |
| MORTAL - When it comes down to the nitty gritty, Remy is human. Despite his enhanced physical abilities, his body is still susceptible to pain, injury and disease.
OVER-CONFIDENCE - There's confidence, and then there's over-confidence. Remy balances on a fine line between the two, and over-confidence has, on occasion, put him in more danger than was necessary.
SUCKER FOR THE LADIES - Remy may be a ladies' man, but he's a sucker for them too. After all as he'll tell you, he may be a mutant, but he's still only human. |

HISTORY
Remy was born in New Orleans to a young prostitute. His biological father, Jean-Luc LeBeau, had been fond of prostitution, much to the detriment of his wife, and he had gotten one of his favorite girls pregnant. He thought it best to take responsibility for the child he helped make, and he knew also that he could give Remy a much better life than his mother could, so he and his wife arranged for a quiet adoption immediately following his birth. Remy never learned of his true parentage, and his father wants to keep it that way.
Since his birth Remy has had his unique eye color, but since his vision checked out at 20/20, no one ever gave cause for concern, especially since he showed no other signs of strangeness.
The LeBeau's were a very wealthy family in New Orleans, and Remy had a happy childhood. He wanted for nothing. Until he met Bella Donna Boudreaux. She was the daughter of one of New Orleans' most notorious crime families. The two fell in love when they were both just 12 years old, and they promised that they would marry each other as soon as they were both 18 (which is the legal age in Louisiana without parental consent). Bella Donna's father disapproved of Remy, mostly because of his strange eyes - he said you could always judge someone by looking them in the eyes, and he didn't like what he saw when he looked at Remy. Jean-Luc also disapproved of this relationship because of Bella Donna's family. He wanted better for his son.
Remy and Bella Donna spent all their free time together, despite their parents' wishes. They planned to get married when they were old enough, and then they would run away where their families couldn't bother them. Bella Donna was able to teach Remy some things that she'd learned from various family members, such as lock-picking and pick-pocketing.
Remy was enchanted with playing cards at a young age, and he taught himself several card tricks and techniques. His bio-kinetic charging abilities manifested themselves early in his teens. He kept these powers a secret from everyone, preferring to practice with them only when alone. Basic control of his powers seemed to come naturally. As time wore on, his body also grew adept to being a generator of bio-kinetic energy. His mutation allowed him to develop improved physical abilities to the limit of natural human capabilities (including speed, agility, reflexes, endurance, flexibility and balance).
Bella Donna's father began to grow tired of Remy and had one of his underlings try to impart this displeasure to Remy. Remy overpowered the underling, using his powers in front of Bella. Bella informed her father of Remy's abilities and her father confronted Remy and made him an offer of employment. Remy refused.
Rather than have a war break out between his family and the Boudreaux family, Remy left. He left his family a very apologetic note, packed up what belongings he could carry, and grabbed all the money he'd saved (and had intended to use to pay for his wedding to Bella Donna). He purchased a motorcycle and headed out of town.
Eventually he found his way to New York, which was when Charles Xavier found Remy downtown in New York City doing his street performing act. Remy combined acrobatics and card tricks. He always finished the act with asking someone to come and draw a card from his deck without letting him see it. He'd have the person put the card back into the deck, then he'd shuffle the deck and somehow produce the person's card. The grand finale would come once Remy found the card - he would lightly charge it with bio-kinetic energy, causing a tiny explosion. People were mystified - he was just like Criss Angel.
Xavier approached Remy after the crowd dispersed, He explained that he knew that Remy was a mutant, and he revealed that he himself was also a mutant. Then, he offered him a place as a student at the Xavier Institute, which he explained was a school specifically for mutants. Remy accepted. He figured that living on the streets was the pits, and he missed his family. He was welcomed to the school, and he was able to get in touch with his family, who was very relieved to know that Remy was alright.
