SPECIAL ABILITIES
ADVANTAGES: |
| BLOODLINE - A blood line is a line of people whom carry the same name, or ability. Jeanne-Marie has the same mutant abilities as her twin brother, Northstar.
DISCIPLINED - Jeanne-Marie is a disciplined young woman, both mentally and physically. This allows her keep her mind sharp and her body in peak physical condition.
MATURITY - Despite whatever biological age Jeanne-Marie is, she is far more mature than others might assume. This maturity can be seen in her dress sense and manner around other people. This means that she is often deemed to be elder than she is, particularly by people of authority.
ATTRACTIVE - Aurora has a habit of turning heads where ever she goes, regardless of how she appears, she is that attractive.
CURIOSITY - Aurora has an incredible curiosity that often overrides her common sense. Meaning that she often gets into all sorts of trouble when something negative occurs unnecessarily, however she is more often than not praised for finding something critical. |
POWERS: |
| SUPERHUMAN SPEED - Aurora is a mutant who possesses the ability to propel her body at superhuman speed, becoming a living projectile. Through an act of concentration, Aurora can channel a portion of the kinetic energy of the atomic motion in her body's molecules in a single direction. This can accelerate her body in a velocity in direct proportion to the amount of kinetic energy he has tapped. While it is theoretically possible for her to reach 99% of the speed of light (286,272 miles per second in a vacuum), she avoids traveling at such speeds for fear of wreaking havoc upon the local environment.
Aurora can also move a single portion of her body at superhuman speed. Hence, she can overpower an opponent by hitting him repeatedly at superhuman speed with her fist.
LIGHT GENERATION - This power only occurs when she physically joins hands with her twin brother Northstar. When this happens, they generate a bright white light equivalent at maximum intensity to one-half million foot-candles. (A foot-candle is a unit of light measurement equal to the intensity of the flame generated by one birthday candle.) This results in a bright flash of white light that completely obliterates all shadows in the manner of a direct sunbeam radiating outward from them. The exact distance has yet to be determined, as does the source of the light itself. No heat accompanies the light. From a distance, an observer would see a bright flash centered on the twins that fades around its edges. They have only produced the effect a handful of times, so not much is known about it.
INCREASED DURABILITY - As a side effect of partially robbing her molecules of their atomic motion, the binding forces within and between the molecules increase. This enhances the sheer toughness of Aurora's entire body. This effect gives her skin enough durability to withstand the ravages of wind, friction and air turbulence. Aurora's costume is made of special materials to enable it to withstand these conditions as well.
FLIGHT - Aurora applies thrust in a carefully controlled manner.
CARRYING PASSENGERS - When carrying another, unprotected human being aloft, Aurora typically moves no faster than 60 miles per hour in order to avoid injuring her 'passenger'. Should she move at speeds in excess of 80 miles an hour, her 'passenger' will most likely be unable to breathe, even though Aurora herself can breathe regardless of what speed she travels. Her 'passenger', while not suffering harm from friction, may still suffocate due to an inability to breathe at the velocities Aurora is capable of reaching. |
FIGHTING SKILLS: |
| BOATING - Piloting water-bound vehicles, such as jet skis, speed boats and sail boats.
EQUESTRIAN - Throughout her life, her father has had Jeanne-Marie enrolled in riding classes.
LANGUAGES - Jeanne-Marie fluently speaks English and French.
SKIING - Launching down snowy mountains or across water at high speeds.
WRITING - The art of expressing oneself on paper through written word. Aurora is skilled at writing persuasive fiction and nonfiction. |
DISADVANTAGES: |
| MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES - Jeanne-Marie has developed a dissociative identity disorder that caused a second, extroverted persona to emerge. This other persona calls herself Aurora and is much more outgoing and open-minded than Jeanne-Marie. Something interesting to note is that when Aurora is in control, Jeanne-Marie has no memory of what transpired, and vice versa.
SHAME - Jeanne-Marie is consumed by a continual sense of shame due to a persistent feeling that there is something wrong with her - that she is unlovable, as it seems that nothing she does will win her father's love or attention. |

HISTORY
The life of Jeanne-Marie Beaubier began tragically when her mother was killed in a car accident soon after her birth. She and her twin brother, Jean-Paul, were left alone with their father, Louis Beaubier, a Canadian diplomat.
Louis's primary concerns centered around appearances and always appearing 'proper'. As a result, Jean-Paul and Jeanne-Marie found themselves in etiquette classes and activities deemed 'appropriate' for them from a very early age. They also quickly discovered that excelling at these endeavors was the only way to receive any praise from their emotionally distant parent.
Jeanne-Marie was enrolled in Madame DuPont's School for Girls - a very expensive, private boarding/finishing school for young ladies. Unhappy there, Jeanne-Marie attempted suicide by plunging herself off the roof; however, instead of falling to her death, her mutant powers manifested, and she flew instead of fell. The deeply distraught young lady took this as a sign from God that she was meant to live. The school's headmistress, Sister Anne, considered this to be blasphemous, and she had Jeanne-Marie severely disciplined.
This caused Jeanne-Marie, who was already overly introverted, to develop a dissociative identity disorder that caused a second, extroverted persona to emerge. This other persona called herself Aurora and was much more outgoing and open-minded than Jeanne-Marie. Something interesting to note is that when Aurora is in control, Jeanne-Marie has no memory of what transpired, and vice versa.
One night Aurora wanted to get out and have a good time. She disappeared for three days, and after she returned to the school, Jeanne-Marie had no memory of what Aurora had been up to. But, Aurora and her disappearing act got Jeanne-Marie expelled from the school.
Due to her erratic behavior Louis had Jeanne-Marie institutionalized for a time being to try to help her with her split personality. Jeanne-Marie became even more introverted due to this, and eventually convinced the staff that she was cured. She then returned home, the story that her father had given Jean Paul was that Jeanne-Marie had gone away for a summer to a proper finishing school in France.
When Jean-Paul came out to her and told her of his sexual orientation, Jeanne-Marie was not very accepting of it. However, Aurora had no problem with it whatsoever and was very accepting of her twin and his lifestyle. During their childhood however they were the best of friends. And did everything with each other.
Jeanne-Marie has not yet told anyone about her dual-personality except for the fact her father found her journal, as she is immensely embarrassed and insecure about it. Aurora hasn't mentioned it to anyone because she doesn't want to ruin a good thing by having someone good-naturedly try to 'fix' the situation.
She has tried to live up to what her father deems as perfection, always trying to strive to better herself in his eyes. Wanting his approval, clamoring for it, needing it.
A few nights after her brother was arrested outside a Chelsea nightclub for disturbing the peace, and violent assault, Professor Charles Xavier visited the Beaubier's home and convinced Louis to enroll the twins in his private Institute for Gifted Youngsters. The twins started in the fall of their sophomore year.
The first year there for Jeanne-Marie was quite interesting, she still stuck to herself, and barely did anything outside of her room. She still had no clue what Aurora did outside of reading their shared journal.
