APPEARANCE: |
| The first and most noticeable thing about Domino is her pale, chalk-white skin. She was born that way; it's as big a part of her as her powers. Her skin is in stark contrast with her jet black hair, which she wears keeps short, as a general practice depending on how long it's been since she's had a haircut.
She's a little waifish and built for speed, with very little fat on her and almost no bust to speak of. Fancying herself as 'one of the boys', she carries herself as a man would, hard where she should be soft, lines and angles where there should be curves.
Her manner of dress is intentionally controversial, an open invite to anyone to comment or critique at the risk of their own health. She dresses quite loudly because she likes it - celebrating her difference and independence - but also because she is supremely confident that few would have the stones to make fun. In short, her wardrobe could be summed up as cyberpunk meets post-apocalyptic. While it is known that Tamara does in fact own A (read as "one") dress, as it was once used as a disguise, one of the running jokes of among the student population is whether she'll actually ever voluntarily wear it again. Nearly everything she wears lends itself to combat-readiness, though often with the accompaniment of ostentatious fur or fringe coats with huge collars, all variety of high and mid-height boots, and all sorts of harnesses, cuffs, gloves, and arm adornments. |

NATURE: |

PERSONALITY: |
| Domino is the characteristic action-junkie. She craves a good rush wherever she can get it, and seeks out extreme situations like an addict seeks out a fix. Constantly moving, Domino quickly becomes irritable and unstable if forced to stay still for too long. She is rash, reckless, and seemingly unconcerned with the consequences of her actions. As such, she has something of a hair-trigger when it comes to her temper and can flip from amenable and lenient to hostile, ultra-violent & ready to behead someone in an instant's notice.
Since her luck powers don't seem to protect those around her, Domino is unwilling to form many long-standing ties, preferring relationships that burn bright and hot and flare out rather than anything stable. Having no past to speak of and an uncertain future, Domino has a deep need to live in the moment. She prefers to fancy herself one of the guys, in part because she finds them in no way physically attractive and thus can keep things as platonic as she finds herself comfortable of becoming. Though also, she simply tends to find the more girlie and effeminate quirks of women to get extremely annoying after very little time; which in itself creates conflict as she finds herself most attracted to more feminine - if still independent and capable - women.
Domino has a deep understanding of the administrative engine. She also has a deep resentment of it. Deep down, Domino wishes to live her life according to her own beliefs; beliefs which don't often sit well with those in 'authority' roles over her. |
GOALS: |
| While her powers give her better than a fighting chance, her current aim is simply to escape high school alive and with her brain not fried by teenage trivialities. Tam isn't utterly sold if this whole "hero-thing" is for her as it ties her down and forces her to care for others entirely more than she's comfortable with. Somewhere, surely they must be looking for a female version of a more efficient James Bond, right? |

SPECIAL ABILITIES
ADVANTAGES: |
| ATHLETE - Domino is naturally athletic. Combined with her compulsively active lifestyle, she has very good physical conditioning.
BALANCE - Domino is a very agile fighter and has very good balance, the result of constantly pressing her own limits in training and study.
COMBAT REFLEXES - Above and beyond her mutant powers, Domino has been training for years in combat - finding any excuse possible to "vent" through DR hops and instances, and thus has much experience in combat situations, simulated or otherwise.
HARD TO KILL - Domino's reflexes and luck powers make it very difficult to pin the girl down and kill her. It seems, no matter the odds, Domino gets a last minute reprieve from the Grim Reaper.
CONFIDENCE - Sure, there's a bit of cockiness mixed in there for seasoning, but when you know that 99.9% of the time you may be nicked, scratched, or cut, but not killed - no matter how reckless you are - wouldn't you walk around with a certain sense of confidence? |
POWERS: |
| PROBABILITY FIELD MANIPULATION - Domino is a mutant with the ability to subliminally and psionically initiate random telekinetic acts that affect probability in her favor by making improbable (but not impossible) things happen within her line of sight, thus causing her to have "good luck" and her opponents to have "bad luck." Conversely, if her power is insufficient to change her environment, it subconsciously guides her into making a decision that proves to be the most beneficial. This phenomenon can be anything from an enemy's equipment suddenly failing, to hitting just the right switch with a stray shot to shut down an overloading nuclear reactor. The full extent of her powers is still unknown.
This unconsciously controlled talent is triggered when she is in a stressful situation (such as fighting or escaping). This effect constantly emanates from her body at all times and is completely subconscious. However, it is activated by Domino's adrenaline levels. The more adrenaline in her system, the larger and more potent her probability field is.
One key component however remains that Domino must act in order to reap the benefits of her added "luck". For example, simply standing still amid a hale of gunfire would result in here resembling black and white Swiss cheese, however if she attempts to avoid the bullets, she will seemingly miraculously make all the right moves to avoid being contacted by each individual projectile.
Domino is slowly coming to trust her powers completely, and as such, more openly exposes herself to positions and instances where her power is needed, due to danger factor. The more active she is, the more excited, the more things tend to go her way.
ENHANCED AGILITY & REFLEXES - As a byproduct of her probability abilities, Domino's cerebral cortex emits a current of bio-electric pulses down her spine to instinctively guide her movements during such situations, which has the added effect of augmenting her natural reflexes and agility to near-superhuman levels. |
FIGHTING SKILLS: |
| COMBAT STYLE (Martial Arts) - Domino has perpetually sought training in hand-to-hand combat (full contact sports are just more fun!), favoring modern, utilitarian, cobblestone fighting arts like Krav Maga, Vale Tudo, and Kali over the more rigid or introspective styles of Kung Fu or Taijustu. Domino's personal fighting style emphasizes joint locks and damaging strikes coupled with disarming techniques that emphasize speed and agility over brute strength. She fights to disable, disarm, or kill - though the later is highly frowned upon by the faculty - as swiftly and decisively as possible.
LANGUAGES - Initially, she taught herself Mandarin (with the aid of another student) so that she could read "The Art of War" in its native language, convinced that some choice gems would be lost in translation to English. Tamara has since become functionally fluent in Spanish, Japanese, and German as well. Still, for personal reasons, she refuses to learn French.
DEMOLITIONS - Blowing stuff up is fun! While the Institute has thus far offered extensive refusal to provide her with proper bomb-making and demolitions training, Domino has a extensive knowledge of how general household and otherwise easily-garnered chemicals can be combined and used to manufacture explosives. She has essentially committed 'The Anarchist's Cookbook' to memory.
DISGUISE - More a necessity of function than anything else. When your complexion is stark white save for one lone black spot, familiarization with camoflauging techniques in dress and makeup (both combat and social) are necessary in order to "blend in" from time to time.
WEAPON STYLE - (Archery) - Thus far, the faculty at XI has refused Domino training with guns, though she will eventually crack them... luck is on her side! In the mean time she has taken up use of a hyper-tensile crossbow and has become a pinpoint-accurate shot. |
DISADVANTAGES: |
| ANTISOCIAL - It's not so much that she isn't a social being or utterly avoids social scenarios, however Domino will not go seeking them out as standard practice. She simply doesn't care all that much about other people's lives or problems unless it is of some relevance to her own self. Morality is one light shade of grey to Tamara, so she'll calmly lie, cheat, steal, and kill if it suits her endeavors more efficiently.
FIDGETY - Domino has a hard time sitting still, in life and in the day-to-day. She constantly feels the desire to move and to change.
MORTAL - Despite her luck, Domino is mortal. Stabbings, shootings, suffocation, fire, and blunt trauma can all kill her.
RECKLESSNESS - Because of her powers, Domino tends to leap head-first into dangerous situations with no heed to personal safety or the safety of those around her.
STRANGE APPEARANCE - Domino's skin is chalk white. It's very noticeable, and requires careful application of body-paint to maintain an illusion of normalcy. Normally, however, Domino is content to stand out when not on a mission. |
EQUIPMENT
UNIFORM: |
| Prototype black leather X-uniform, both piped and threaded in matching black; uniforms are for combat instances not fashion shows. The guy who's trying to blow your head off doesn't care if your leathers are piped in pretty pink! Domino's uniform has been modified to allow for individual, custom-sculpted Kevlar plates to be inserted into otherwise indiscernible pockets creating the perfect balance between high impact resistance and ideal flexibility. Even the metallic 'X' clasp on her belt has been tinted black to improve stealth.
Footwear varies by instance type, either standard combat boots for straight missions or soft soled spit-toed sneaking shoes for stealth ones. During stealth missions, Domino has also employed the use of black face paint to better hide her ghostly visage. |
EQUIPMENT: |
| Smartphone with corresponding bluetooth earbud, Modified TAC-15 tactical crossbow*, a good ol' fashioned Bowie knife with hip-mounted sheath, and a utility belt with varying types of homemade grenades, flash-bangs, and incendiaries.
* Using the example set from the repeating crossbow of China's Han dynasty, Dom has modified her TAC-15 to feed via bottom-loaded cartridge, making the weapon near semi automatic with respect to ammunition. Each cartridge holds (9) eight-inch carbon bolts fitted with stinger broadhead tips. While it appears as a typical crossbow, the source of its projection comes less from the bowstring and more from CO2 cartridges cleverly hidden in the weapon's stock. As such, it is capable of firing a bolt its full length deep into solid concrete. Domino has also fitted a laser-sight to the bow. |
RESOURCES: |
| FE - Domino understands the value of work and more importantly the value of money. While others may be apprehensive about getting their hands dirty and doing menial labor thinking it below their status or simply not-fun, Dom has found that odd-job work around the institute assisting certain staff members particularly in the maintenance of tactical training supplies can earn her some, if meager, spending money. |
TRANSPORTATION: |
| Kawasaki GPz 900R Ninja motorcycle (black and red with silver accents); no one has ventured to ask exactly where she got it or rather... how, but it is hers nonetheless, but whatever means it was gained. The current rumor though is that it was won as part of a game of Chicken in which her opponent rode a motorcycle and Dom rode a child's "Big-Wheel" tricycle. |

HISTORY
Tamara Winter was named for Saint Tamara of Georgia, a namesake in particular who would prove as she grew older to be less than appropriate as Saint Tamara was renown for her meekness, piety, and love of peace, whereas Miss Winter exhibited none of these qualities.
As an infant she was abandoned at the doorstep of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Chicago by a mother who was identified solely as “Beatrice” by the scrawled brief note pinned to the baby’s blanket. It was here that she was found by Father Rudolpho Boschelli, a caring man who took concern over the child and asked few questions as it appeared her estranged mother’s concerns centered around the unrest abound with the recent surfacing of mutants – as she seemed to suspect her daughter was one and the babe’s “non-pigmented” complexion seemed to confirm. Three weeks later, Beatrice was an unidentifiable corpse found in a hotel bathroom off Route 40 in Colorado. Whether these details have ever been discovered by Tamara is still unclear.
Tam grew up in the orphanage at Sacred Heart. Father Boschelli quickly found that she was a scrappy young girl, as “Domino” as the other girls rudely nicknamed her and her looks got in a lot of trouble with the other girls in the orphanage, and her powers gave her an edge in many a fight. The incessant derision of the ‘normal’ children as well as the constant pressure toward the moral high-ground that came with being raised by priests and nuns only seemed to further foster Tamara rebellious and deviant nature.
Several months after what was presumed to be her 15th birthday – as her actual birth date was never ascertained – an earthquake shook the Sacred Heart grounds as Tamara was sitting reading quietly in the courtyard. When the bell tower of the church began to crumble apart and rain down bricks the size of televisions, Father Boschelli rushed to Tamara’s aid, watching in utter disbelief from a sheltered cove as brick after brick landed within inches of her body to every-which direction, each one narrowly avoiding crushing the girl’s skull as she strided through across the lawn towards safety. Wide-eyed as he stepped into the courtyard after the downpour had ceased, the priest was about to question Tamara as to how – save for act of God – such an occurrence could have come to pass when he was felled by the heavy iron bell, crushing his skull and killing him instantly.
With her one confederate dead and her long list of misbehaviors, Domino soon found herself the target of the Mother Superior and the other nuns who sought to rid the orphanage of a troublesome influence who they were fairly certain was both a mutant and a homosexual; neither of which were apparently kosher with the Catholic church.
Tamara would have likely become another to walk the path of many of those who have gone down the road of indiscretion and do-baddery, had it not been for the grace of Professor Charles Xavier. News of the near-impossible survival of the girl in the gale of bricks had spread across the country’s media outlets and drawn the attention of Xavier who offered Domino a chance to go someplace where she would fit in (not that she cared), but more importantly where she would have a roof over her head, food in her mouth, and access to education (which she much preferred to living on the street).
In her first year at the Institute, Domino proved to be quite the loner. The girls saw her more as one of the guys – the proverbial tomboy deluxe – while the boys saw her as the girl who could kick their butts both in training and in most other literal situations. Her instructors found her a diligent and dedicated, if somewhat antisocial, student with a particular aptitude for martial science, self defense, and history – especially where it pertained to the great wars and battles of civilizations.
Over time she grew to accept what could best be described as a tolerant attitude towards her studies. Those areas which interested her and in which she saw substantial merit or benefit to learning – whether they were particularly enthralling or not – she applied herself diligently in. Even in combat- training instances in which she has excelled, she still finds an incredibly difficult time trusting others, finding herself almost in a Catch-22 adversity with her gifted powers: A lack of trust in others to have her back invariably ups the stress of the situation and directly increases her chance of survival. Thus, breaking her of her lone wolf mentality is proving to be a far greater task than ever originally imagined.
Charles Xavier has slowly begun to unearth otherwise unknown facts about Domino's history which she would otherwise have no access to. Most notably, while her birth-mother deposited her at an orphanage in Chicago, Tamara was in fact born in southern Florida.
