On first sight it is unmistakable; he is not like other men. His blue eyes are piercing and bulbous. He looks more like a bird than a human. Barnell’s nose is truly not a nose, but a beak that is largely composed of his upper jaw (the maxilla) and his lower jaw (the mandible). The beak is made of bone, typically hollow or porous, to conserve weight for flight. The beak is the same color as his skin. His long ashen-golden hair is actually made up of fine feathers that are long like normal hair, and it is usually combed back or cropped into a mohawk. Barnell has a lithe form, his upper chest and lower arms have light tufts of golden hair-feathers along them just like his hair.

Barnell loves life. The smallest of things can fascinate him, very much like a child, filled with wide-eyed wonder for the world and all it has to offer. He can see beauty in anything, including people, always looking for the good in people even when their actions and attitudes might suggest they're not worth his time. He tries hard never to let life get him down and usually does a good job of that. Barnell has a very positive, optimistic outlook, and there's very often a smile on his beak, if not laughter. He's usually friendly to everyone he meets, and he isn't judgmental; instead he is open-minded about the quirks and foibles that everyone has and believes that if something makes someone happy and isn't hurting anyone else, then it should be fully encouraged. He has a consistent, upbeat demeanor can be quite annoying to some people.

He isn't innocent, although he may come off that way to people. His life has been a constant struggle, both physically and financially. Nothing has ever come easily to Barnell, and he understands that it's necessary to have to work for something you want. Good things are never just handed over on a golden platter. He knows through his life's experiences that for all the wondrous things that life has to offer, it can also be a stone cold bitch. He understands and anticipates that, but he doesn't believe that it means he should hold back from experiencing as much of its brightness as he can. He generally approaches everything with enthusiasm and will cheerfully work himself as hard as possible to do well in something he thinks is important, such as squad training. He brings an equal level of enthusiasm to his social life, although he isn't always great at balancing the two.

He likes the feeling of being in charge of his own life because he's spent so much time being dependent on others. Although he's very social, he also likes spending time on his own and is very much in favor of going off and doing his own thing when the fancy strikes him. He enjoys sports, playing the guitar and any kind of physical activity, and he keeps himself in excellent shape.

Barnell is far more self-conscious than he allows himself to admit. It all began that day that his face shifted into that of a bird. If a ruthless or mean comment is directed toward him about his mutation, Barnell immediately closes himself off and becomes cold and emotionless. It is times like these that he prefers to lock himself away in his room until his mood has been lifted once again.

GOALS:

Beak also hopes to one day be able to gain a sembalance of a normal appearance and to have a normal life.

CHARISMATIC - Beak just seems to have that special magnetic charm or appeal about them. There is something about him that people just can't help but like, despite his monstrous appearance.

DAMN HEALTHY! - Beak is, as the name implies, damn healthy. Meaning that he eats all the right foods and partakes in plenty of exercise to keep himself in tiptop shape.

HEROIC - There is just something very imposing or impressive about Beak that makes him surpass the ordinary; whether it is showing extreme courage or bravery, or saving someone's life. This even extends to not killing an enemy unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.

PRESENCE - When Beak is present, EVERYONE knows it. It's hard to not notice Beak.

POWERS:

AVIAN PHYSIOLOGY - His bones are light and hollow, and his arms have hair-like feathers which may someday develop into wings to allow him to glide and fly for short distances. He also has talons on his hands and feet. His face has formed much like that of a bird, complete with a huge bony beak where his nose and lips were before his mutation manifested, and his large, bulbous eyes allow for enhanced eyesight.

FIGHTING SKILLS:

LEADERSHIP - Barnell is also skilled at dealing with other people and so is an accomplished taskmaster or leader. This also makes him a go-to guy when people around him are upset, worried or just need someone to talk to - he's mature and level-headed enough to give sound advice. He is working on his tactics, as he feels that they are a worthwhile investment of his time, and his analytical mind can often grasp these concepts fairly quickly.

GENETICS - The science of genes. Beak has been studying with Beast on understanding mutations, the effects of radiation on cellular matter, and even new life forms. He hopes to find a way to change his appearance so that he is not so hideous, although his chances at success are slim.

GUITAR – Barnell is an excellent guitar player, having been playing since he could hold one in his hands.

LISTENING – While not very prone to talking, he is fantastic at listening, and seems to possess an aura which allows people to tell him of their problems and worries. He is patient, genuinely listens to what they have to say, and always tries to help out if help is needed. He is a trustworthy person, and secrets told to him might as well be buried in the Earth’s core.

DISADVANTAGES:

LOVE - Beak is a hopeless romantic, and as such, he easily falls for a pretty face. Barnell is also easily manipulated by a pretty face.

MORTAL - Beak has many weaknesses in terms of his powers, and his main weakness is the fact that he is but a mere mortal. Beak is able to die from injury, illness and old age. Since his bones are hollow, he is especially prone to injury.

MONSTROUS APPEARANCE - Beak doesn't look like a normal person, so he doesn't often go out in public.

UNIFORM:

Beak's uniform is a black form-fitting bodysuit with gold trim. The body suit doesn't have sleeves to allow for his arms/developing wings to move without constraint. The ensemble is completed by a matching bat holster on the back with a matching color scheme.

EQUIPMENT:

Beak wields a metal baseball bat in defense of himself in battle. He carries this bat in a case that he carries over his shoulder and a holder on the back of his uniform.
