DEMEANOR:

NATURE:

Idealist

PERSONALITY:

Callie is an optimist who looks forward to each day, but she always feels like she wastes her time doing nothing productive. She often thinks of all these things she could do to have fun or help people, but then ends up spending all her time planning.

Callie is opinionated and feels justified in her beliefs. She does not always state her opinions as confidently as she wishes. This is because she fears people will reject her opinions. She does sometimes question her beliefs, but without an outside influence she always goes back to her original opinions. She could be swayed with someones help if she became close with them. The concern is that if someone doesn't get close enough with her to help her, she may eventually die because her eating disorder.

Callie is harder on herself than others. She hates herself whenever she eats, but others can do so and she doesn't judge them. She know her power to sense life in plants gives her an insight others can't sense. Because she has this ability and other's don't, she can't expect them understand her actions. She does believe though that it doesn't let her off the hook.

Her optimism can be snuffed out because her self confidence gets crushed easily. If she isn't being insulted, feeling attacked, or thinking about food she is rather cheerful and up for anything.

Callie comforts people when they have been hurt, but tends to shy from violence, and thus has trouble standing up for others. When it turns to physical violence, she will not allow harm to be done even if it scares her. She will stand in the way, or grab someones arm to stop a punch if needed. She will often run away or recoil if someone decides to redirect the assault towards her.

Callie is also somewhat of a coward. She wants someone to tell her everything will be okay. She wants to be protected. She wants to find a guy who will be her knight, and help her fight her eating disorder. She wants someone to convince her that she is worth keeping alive, and that eating is okay. She wants to be told what she can do for the world outweighs the harm she does through eating.

Even though Callie is a social person, she feels like she needs to separate herself from people. Callie thinks she doesn't have the luxury to get close to people because her eating situation. The conflict that follows when her eating habits are brought up give her reason to keep away from other to avoid conflict.

GOALS:

To find an alternate means of eating that doesn't involve any living species. Learn to control her powers, and actually figure out who she is. Maybe eventually become a historian.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

ADVANTAGES:

AMERICAN LORE - Callie has a interest in Native American, Central American and South American cultures. She is well versed in several different myths, and likes to expand her knowledge in these areas. Becoming a Historian is something she has tossed back and forth through her mind for a while.

ATTRACTIVE - Callie is unbelievably beautiful, but in a way that doesn't fit a human. She seems very slender and light, and has a grace to her step. The way she carries herself, and the way she looks would remind someone of a stereotypical elf in a book.

GUNG HO - Callie is up for do most anything. She can be excited for most activities as long as there is someone else who enjoys it in her midst.

PATTERN RECOGNITION - Callie has this wonderful ability to recognize patterns and shapes rather easily.

SINGING - Callie has an amazing voice when she sings, but most don't hear it since she prefers to sing to nature rather than people.

POWERS:

FLORA AWARENESS - Callie can sense the state of a plant. She can tell whether it's dying, malnourished or thriving with life. She can tell if the plant needs more light or water among other things. This power is the easiest for her to control.

FLORA MANIPULATION - Callie's power gives her the ability to "grab hold" of plants, dead or alive. This works the same way telekinesis does.

IMMUNITY - She is immune to the effects of all known Alkalies(caffeine, cocaine, etc.).

PLANT GROWTH - Callie can affect the growth of plants without feeding them water or sunlight. Dryad can slow down, speed up, or reverse the growth rate of any plant within a twenty foot radius. She most commonly uses this power in combat, using vines and roots to wrap themselves around her enemies. She can increase the plants ability to use photosynthesis, as well as raise the life expectancy of the plant. She can also make most plants grow from a seed. Callie can also change how a plant grows. She can cause fruit to be larger, thorns to be sharper and a plants scent to be stronger.

FIGHTING SKILLS:

ART - Callie is a fan of drawing. She finds people more interesting to draw than plants or places because they are constantly in motion. She uses this hobby of hers to help herself memorize the shape/features of a plant from time to time.

OBSERVATION - Callie has enhanced awareness when in a forest environment. Her connection with plants around her can let her sense when someone is nearby from how the plants shift and move. She usually needs to be at a calm or near meditative state for this to be possible. The activity level of sitting in a park, and relaxing allows her access this ability.

POP CULTURE - Callie loves pop culture, and likes to keep up with trends. This girl is really into knowing which celebrity is doing what and with who.

SURVIVAL - Callie not only has the knowledge, but a power that could keep her safe and healthy living in the jungle if she so choosed.

DISADVANTAGES:

ANOREXIA - Callie has an eating disorder, not because of her looks, but because of her beliefs. She won't eat animals because she finds it wrong to kill a living creature, and ever since her power manifested she has had trouble eating anything. Being able to sense life in a creature one moment, and then the next notice a lack of life is a hardship for her. The fact she can't feel the life in the plant is a constant reminder of death. Callie does still force herself to eat because she is fully aware that she will die otherwise. She will still go on long streaks of not touching food at all. Six weeks was the longest she went before she was hospitalized. Callie will eventually push her disorder to a dangerous level again, the only question is when.

CHRONIC FATIGUE - Her avoidance of eating often leaves her fatigued and needing at least 10 hours of sleep to function normally.

COMBAT INCOMPETENCE - She doesn't understand fighting, and feels that using restraint and talking through conflict is the best way to deal with a situation. Regardless, she lacks any form of training to fight up close and relies on her power to take care of her in a dangerous situation.

MORTAL - She can die from injury, sickness, age, etc.

HISTORY

Callie Betto is the daughter of a New York landscape artist, Giancarlo Betto. Her childhood was rather simple and nice. The only trauma she had to deal with was her grandmothers death when she was seven. This was a dilemma she got over quickly as she realized she never knew her grandmother very well. Callie is a perceptive and determined girl which showed when she was younger. She enjoyed the attention she received from appearing intelligent, and decided to continue to encourage this façade in junior high. Callie became very popular at her school regardless of the fact she studied hard and never socialized with others. She realized people found her pretty and they held a bit of respect for her because her diligent attitude towards school work. This new attention encouraged her to delve even more into her studies. Callie began to take an interest in American Culture, finding the Aztecs, Incas and other Native American civilizations fascinating. With this new interest she wanted to spend even more time learning. The cultures, the environments they lived in and the animals they lived with were all waiting for her to discover them.

Her power manifested her junior year of high school. It was November when she accidentally caused a tree to break through the window of her art room. A branch hit her professor in the head and caused a ruckus. He failed her on her final project for the semester and it was the first time she ever got anything below a B. It left her in shock for a while as she realized that just picturing the tree move would cause it to move in real life. She also couldn’t believe that she would let her anger get the best of her.

Callie spoke with her parents about her problem at school, and they both agreed the smartest thing to do would be to keep her at home until she learned to better control her powers. They didn’t believe her right away, but after she used her power to make an apple grow to three times its normal size they couldn’t deny her story. She didn't like the idea of leaving school to learn to control her powers, but agreed that the safety of others was more important. Her parents spoke with the school, and they up an leave of absence for their daughter. During this time, she stayed at home and practiced to control her power. Each day she tried to gain better control of her abilities, but failed at making her power do what she wanted it to do. If she tried to make a flower bloom, it would rapidly mature to the point of death. The apple she grew was not supposed to grow to the size it did. Even when she tried to shrink it, it took twenty minutes to bring it to an appropriate size.

It was around April Callie begged her parents to let her return to school. They finally agreed she could return to school after she convinced them she had a better control. This was a lie, but Callie couldn’t let her studies suffer any more than they already have. The girl was reading on her own, but learning was much harder without help from the teachers. She had made a deal with the school that if she completed all the school work she missed by June 13th then she passed her classes. It was June 10th when she was told she was going to be held back a year to complete the missing work she could not finish. Callie once again lost control of her powers. She caused the potted plant inside the principles office to grow to an unusual size, and shattered the pot in the process. She screamed when she realized what she had done, and she was fearful of what the principle would think. Luckily the principle did not realize it was Callie's doing, and seemed to be at a loss as to what happened.

When she returned home, her parents told her that they heard from the principle about her being held back. Callie decided to inform them about what had happened with the potted plant. They grew worried again, and spoke with her about pulling out the high school permanently. This time they offered the alternative of home schooling her. Callie's dad mentioned he was willing to take off time from work to teach her. Callie was not happy with the idea, but failed to come up with an alternative.
